Turning a spare room into a study
BFM Ltd. · 28 Sep 2026
A table against a wall is a start. A study that you can work in every day needs a desktop at the right height, somewhere for paper and files, and a door that still opens.
Fit the desk to the wall you have
Alcoves, radiators and windows decide the length of the desk more than a catalogue size does. A fitted top can stop where the radiator starts, or run across an alcove and turn a corner if the room allows.
Storage before extra shelves
If everything lives on open shelves, the room looks busy by the end of the week. A mix of drawers and closed cupboards keeps the working surface clear. Bookcases can still take the wall above, at a depth that suits books rather than box files.
Tell us how you work and what has to be stored. We will design the furniture for that room and make it in Blackburn.
